A year ago today I can remember laying eyes on my daughter for the very first time. I was tired from my c/section but the moment they put her in my arms I was hooked, and madly and deeply in love. Words cannot described what this past year has brought, it's been a roller coaster of emotions, exhaustion, frustration, love, awe, gratifying, and so much more. I can't wait to see what the next year brings! Happy Birthday to my sweet little Guinevere!

The end of the season is always an exciting time, it's when I finally have a bit of downtime to update my website and blog and make lots of changes. This year is no different! Gruman Photography website will be getting a little face lift with updated categories, along with updated hours of operation, in addition to the updated hours of operation I will be taking a limited numbers of weddings per month, along with less blog postings. I'm really excited to announce Sunday November 1st I will be offering mini sessions at a studio I have rented in NE Mpls. This would be perfect for your holiday card, a milestone age for your little one or just some updated pictures of yourself!

20-25 minutes of shooting

All editing and retouching of photos

15-25 high-res images on a CD with full printing rights

Custom Holiday card design (I will have 5 designs to choose from the day of the shoot)

I will have some props available to use for kids and infants, feel free to bring your own too!

Ok so it was a bit dreary and wet day for Kelsey and Dan's wedding on Saturday but they didn't let that get them down! I just love this couple and everything about their day was beautiful. Dan and Kelsey I wish you many years of wedded bliss :)

Blogging takes a surprisingly long time and since it's been a very busy September and October for me it has been cutting into my editing time. Bloomers were made by my Mom, aren't they adorable!

So one of the perks of being a photographer is if I'm not happy with one of my daughters photo shoots I can just pack her up and head to a different location anytime I want. If you saw my previous post ignore it. THESE pictures portray my daughter perfectly. All the shots were taken at my childhood home, a hobby farm which my Mom still lives on (located in Lake Elmo). If anyone ever wants to shoot there it's open for me to use (obviously : ) ). Great place for fall colors. Anyhoo, onto the pictures. Lighting was perfect tonight.

The ceremony was held at Emmanuel Christian Center in Spring Lake Park and the reception was held at the New Brighton Family Service Center. It was a perfect September day for Heather and Tony's wedding. The ceremony and reception was held at The Legacy Courses at Craguns Resort up in Brainerd. It was such a beautiful setting and Heather and Tony are such a beautiful couple too! Seriously they do not take bad pictures! And their little girl is just to die for, she was very interested in my camera, even during the ceremony she would come up to me and say "DAD DAD DAD" and point to my camera (because I showed a picture of her Dad earlier), SO cute!! One of the big reasons I love to photograph kids is because each one is different and unique in his or her own way. Like Henry's quiet demeanor, or Nolan's sweet but mischievous smile. Lexi is so adorable, I last shot her when she turned 1 and now she's 2! I love when clients come back to me each year, it's fun to see the little ones grow. Lexi had a blast watching the skateboarders at Minnehaha Falls today, we also had a good time looking for Dora at her house!

I shot this family a couple of years ago in the same location, near Manitou Island in White Bear Lake. These guys are real troopers, we thought it would be a good idea to wade out into the lake a bit, well little did we know that the first step you take will be a deep one! You sink down about 6" into muck! But they didn't mind which is awesome. Thanks guys it was a great shoot!

Mini Session

I have an opportunity to rent some studio space this fall to do a full day of mini sessions. But I wanted to first see if there would be any interest. Basically what it would be is 30 minutes of shooting inside a studio in Minneapolis, shooting up to 5 people, all editing, full ownership rights, approx. 25-30 images and a CD containing the images, perfect for your holiday cards! The fee would be $100 and I would have them done and shipped to you in 2-3 weeks.

I'm looking at doing them around the beginning of November. In order for me to make this work though I would have to book at least 8 clients. If this is something you would be interested in please leave a comment below or drop me an email grumanphotog@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Meet Nolan, he's two. Today! HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOLAN!! It was another gloomy, rainy day so we decided to take the shoot to Como Conservatory. Nolan did very well, he was very interested in the fish and the water. Towards the end he was about done with pictures, but Mom and Dad knew just what to.....bribe him for a few more shots with a sucker! I love the series with the sucker, so awesome.

I love shooting in my town, so I was extra excited when Emilie suggested Irvine Park in St. Paul to do some family photos. What a great park, so many options! I'm so glad Ash suggested Quarry Park up in Waite Park to do her senior pictures. I love to travel to new places for shoots, plus this place was awesome! My husband being the king of random facts informed me before I left that St. Cloud (which is right next to Waite Park) is the granite capital of the world and the quarry's are 116 feet deep! You can do some cliff jumping into one of quarry's but you won't see me up there : ). Ash is absolutely adorable and I had a blast photographing her!

You may recognize Will, he was Michael Jackson : ), at Troy and Talia's wedding. After their wedding Will and Melissa decided to set up a shoot with their 2 year old son Keegan. We shot out at Minnehaha Falls on Sunday, it was actually a pretty nice. And the whole family was up to doing anything, even climbing into a cave! Adorable family huh?

I've been looking forward to Megan and Bill's wedding since the day we had our first meeting. I finally got the chance to shoot in my wonderful city of St. Paul, and my city did not fail me nor did my fabulous bride and groom! We started our day in downtown St. Paul and made our way around Rice Park. Megan is a dancer (with the Eclectic Edge Ensemble) and you can tell, the way she carries herself so gracefully and she is so comfortable in front of the camera. Just beautiful. After our time in downtown we headed over to the Harriet Island Pavilion for the ceremony and reception. Everything was gorgeous! I didn't want the day to end, I could have shot this wedding over and over again! Ok enough from me, enjoy the teasers! Thank you Megan and Bill, your day was so awesome.

Mom, Michelle (Click here to see her website), contacted me about doing family pictures. Then I suggested we do a service trade (I shoot her family she shoots my family). You're going to have to wait awhile to see a rare photo of me but tonight I did the Sauer's family shoot. Oh my gosh have you ever seen more beautiful and adorable kids?!?!? They all look like they belong in a Dayton's ad (yes I said Dayton's, if you're a true Minnesotan you'll know what that means). Thanks Michelle can't wait for our shoot!

Right when I think I could never handle having another baby around the house I get the chance to photograph a brand new baby. Oh dear talk about some serious baby fever! This shoot was extra special to me since Jessica and Kevin's wedding was the very first wedding I ever photographed. It's so much fun to see my clients through out the different stages in their life. Aspyn is only 9 days old, it's funny how quickly you forget how tiny babies are in the beginning.

This shoot was also my first shoot in a studio, which I will be offering to clients now for a small additional fee (and booking your session at least 2-3 weeks before the desired date).

First off it was beautiful out and second everything went SO smoothly! I was impressed! (As usual I don't normally put pictures of Gwen's in clients posts but Nick & Kali's little one, Gaven, is Gwen's future husband so I HAD to include the photos of them together :) ). I can honestly say that Troy & Talia are the sweetest most genuine people I have worked with. Talia is so laid back and up for anything and Troy (a football coach) is super organized and was awesome getting family rounded up for formals. I had so much fun down in La Crosse photographing their wedding. And the dance was seriously the best dance I have ever photographed! Complete with Michael Jackson, Sonny & Cher! Thanks guys, have a fabulous time in St. Lucia.

Is is July? In Minnesota? Cause it sure didn't feel like this morning at our photo shoot! Mom, Jenny contacted me about doing pictures of her kids and their cousins. I love how adorable Dan and Kelsey were at our engagement shoot today at St. Anthony Main. Dan is very soft spoken but can make Kelsey totally light up. And Kelsey is so sweet and bubbly, they compliment each so well and it shows in the photos. Can't wait for your wedding in October guys!

Since becoming a Mom the things that make me teary eyed are much different then when I was childless. One thing is how quickly little ones grow up. I shot Mackenzie's 1 year old photos today, the last in her "baby's first year package" shoots. It seems like just yesterday I was photographing Mackenzie when she was a tiny 1 month old. So much about Mackenzie has changed, except her adorable smile, it lights up the room like it always has. Thank you Alyssa & Erik for having me in your home everything 3 months and watching Mackenzie grow up.

Judd & Emily had a beautiful and very elegant wedding at Noerenberg Memorial Gardens in Wayzata. The sun came out just in time for pictures and Emily looked ravishing! The best man asked me which photos where my favorites at each wedding I photograph, and after thinking about it for a minute I decided my two favorite shots are when the bride and groom meet for the first time on their wedding day and when they walk back down the aisle after being married. The emotions in their faces are so fresh and candid. Emily and Judd faces explain it perfectly. After the ceremony we then headed over to the Wayzta Country Club where everything was so gorgeous. And check out that dessert bar, yum! Thanks Judd & and Emily for including me in your day, good luck with the big move to Colorado!

Man was it HOT on Saturday! But gorgeous out and I had a gorgeous couple to photography also. Steven and Tracy met back in high school and have been together for 5 years, they were married at the Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Brighton. The colors of their wedding were so beautiful, made it really feel like summer! After the ceremony we stopped at Blondies Sport Bar in Brooklyn Park, that's where everybody let their hair down! After a few drinks we went over to Edinburgh USA for the lovely reception. Thank you Steven and Tracy, I had a blast photographing your wedding, have fun in Cabo!

What a way to brighten up a "blah" day, Connor (who just turned 2!) was so much fun to photograph this morning at Minnehaha Falls. He liked to explore the whole park and ask why to lots of different things. I love this age! How sweet is that last picture with Mom, Sarah, and Connor? Makes my heart melt!

My favorite little blue eyed girl is 1! I can't believe it! Reagan was so cute at our shoot today at Minnehaha Falls, she knows how to walk but still tips over every now and then. And she was very interested in everything except the camera! It was a good work out once again, another reason why I love my job :).

Despite the gloomy rainy day on Saturday Laura and Patrick were so much fun! They made the best of the situation and went with the flow, never once did they stress about the rain. They were so great to work with! Their ceremony was at Faith Lutheran Church up in Isanti and the reception was at the Isanti Community Center. I've never had a couple who actually smashed the wedding cake into each other's face, can I just say it makes for some awesome shots?! I'm voting all couples should do this now : ) Thanks for including me in your day guys, I had a blast!

ABOUT ME

When I started thinking about this section of my blog my mind went blank. Suddenly I knew nothing "about me". HA! So I ask my husband to interview me, here's how it went:

Husband: "What do you like to do?"

Me: "In my spare time?"

Husband: "Yes."

Me: "Spend time with my family, explore the outdoors, being active......"

Husband: "ok questions #2. Ummmmmm. What's your favorite color?"

Me: Blank stare. "Thanks honey you did great."

Ok so that didn't go as planned. So I started thinking about my passion for photography. It started long ago in a country far, far away. Ok well it wasn't that far but it was in the country, on a farm, in Lake Elmo. :) I can still remember when my parents gave me my first Polaroid camera. Oh man. I took countless pictures of my cat, feet, trees, cars, really any random object.

Fast forward a few years and put a film 35mm camera in my hands and suddenly my photographing of random objects wasn't so random anymore. I could find something so interesting in the simplest of objects. That's when I knew it was more then just a hobby.

Fast forward a few more years, my Dad gets sick with cancer and I lose him. I was devastated. I was my Daddy's little girl. Photos took on a whole new meaning to me. Photos of me and my father together were no longer smushed in a box under the bed. This was how I kept my Dad alive. I could look at a photo of me and him together and remember all the senses going on, the smell in the air, the feeling of his arm around me, the energy we had together. I will always hold photos close to my heart. And now that I have a family of my own I feel the same way when I look at photos from our wedding day or the day our daughter was born.

This is how I want all my clients to feel when they look at their photos from their wedding day or family portraits. I want them to remember how special the day was and put themselves back into the day.

I currently live in the Mac/Groveland area of St. Paul, which I adore! My husband (Alex) and I married 3 years ago and welcomed our first born into the world on 12/22/08 (Guinevere). We have two labs (Miko & Odin) who are, well, labs ;)
